The Masdar Initiative sought by the Government of the United Arab Emirates, aims to create a prototype of a sustainable city where residents and commuters have the highest quality of life with the lowest environmental footprint. The masterplan study by Foster + Partners is an ambitious project which aims at promoting research and development systems for renewable energy and creating a sustainable model for cities of the future. ETA-Florence was responsible for the energy planning of Masdar City, which required a detailed analysis of the renewable energy available, the estimated production, simulation of energy supply, the demand and strategic integration of various types of thechnologies in this difficult environmental context.
